Dr. Olaf Schmidt

Olaf Schmidt is highly experienced in advising institutional investors, private equity sponsors, family offices and asset managers across all aspects of real estate law.

Olaf advises clients on the acquisition, disposal and management of real estate portfolios, both in direct form and through corporate and regulated fund structures. He has broad experience in complex cross-border transactions and helping European investors to enter into and navigate the Italian real estate market.

Olaf joined DLA Piper in 2003 and has made significant contributions to the growth of the Italian practice, the International Real Estate Group and the Firm. From 2009 to 2016 he served as Head of the International Real Estate Group until he was appointed in 2016 as member of the Executive Committee of DLA Piper. As member of the Executive Committee, he was Managing Director of Countries (2016 to 2018) and Managing Director of Groups (2018 to 2024). Today, Olaf covers the role of Location Head Real Estate Italy and continues to represent the Firm's clients in the structuring and implementation of real estate investments in Italy and Europe.
