Dr. Orestis Omran is a Partner in DLA Piper's Brussels office and Co-Head of the firm's Greece Country Group, leading its practice across Greece and Cyprus. He advises on international corporate and finance transactions in the energy, banking and infrastructure sectors, and on EU regulatory matters before the European Commission and EU Courts.

Qualified in England and Wales, New York, Greece and Brussels, Orestis has built his practice around complex cross-border work spanning multiple legal systems. His transactional experience includes structured and project finance, privatisations, IPOs and asset acquisitions, with a particular track record across southeastern Europe. In the energy sector he advises on renewables, hydrogen, power purchase agreements, oil and gas, and interconnection infrastructure. He has also represented clients, including the Greek Government, in state aid investigations before the European Commission and subsequent proceedings before the EU Courts.

Energy and Decarbonisation

  • Acting for the Greek Government on all aspects of its decarbonisation programme, including the structuring of Recovery and Resilience Facility funding and the state aid clearances required for implementation.
  • Advising Metlen, an FTSE 100 energy group, on project development, corporate and regulatory matters across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Advising Motor Oil on the regulatory, tolling, dispatch and financing aspects of its battery storage programme in South Eastern Europe.
  • Advising a major international technology and energy company on a major electricity interconnection project between North Africa and Southern Europe.
  • Advising a major international hydrogen developer on the development of hydrogen-based electricity production projects across multiple jurisdictions, including the Middle East, Southern Europe and South America.
  • Advised a clean fuels developer on the development of a large-scale eFuels project in Denmark, including commercial contracts, offtake arrangements, grid connection, site lease and project financing documentation.

Structured Finance and Securitisation

  • Acting for Deutsche Bank and Eurobank as investors in the securitisation of a EUR 2.8 billion electricity receivables portfolio of the Public Power Corporation.
  • Advised Finacity as arranger and administrator in a EUR 600 million securitisation of performing energy receivables.
  • Advising QQuant on the servicing and securitisation of a EUR 1 billion NPL portfolio of Pancreta Bank.

M&A and Private Equity

  • Advised the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network on the EUR 2 billion sale of a 49% stake.
  • Advised Dimand in the EUR 500 million acquisition of Alpha Bank's real estate portfolio.
  • Advised a European private equity investor on the acquisition of a controlling stake in a pharmaceutical CDMO, including cross-border private equity and life sciences transactional issues.
  • Advised a major European battery producer on the acquisition of battery businesses in Germany, Belgium, Italy, France and the UK.

  • Assisting sponsors on several European Projects of Common Interest in obtaining regulatory approvals from the European Commission and national regulatory authorities.
